About Us

Walter J. Barnes Electric Co., Inc. is an electrical contracting firm originally founded in 1932 and incorporated under the laws of the State of Louisiana in 1960. It has been owned and operated by the Ellis Family since 1965. Honesty, integrity, and safety are our highest priorities, and we strive to maintain them on every project. We work hard to maintain our reputation as one of the premier electrical contractors in this area.

With three fully licensed and registered electrical engineers on staff, we are capable of offering total design-build services with fully certified electrical documents. We can also provide assistance on projects requiring fast track schedules and value engineering.

We are a member of the National Electrical Contractors Association and operate under a labor agreement with the Local Union #130, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, licensed in the states of Louisiana (License #448) and Mississippi (License #4216) to perform the following work:

  • Municipal and Public Works Construction
  • Instrumentation and Calibration
  • Telecommunications
  • Fiber Optic Cable Splicing

Located at our headquarters at 432 Dakin Street in Jefferson Parish is our main office, bonded warehouse, shop, and yard facility. Field offices and storage facilities are established at all project sites with communications, data processing, and transportation equipment, as required.

Same day or next day delivery of materials and tools is provided for all jobs by our Purchasing and Warehouse departments. Field installation drawings, instructions, and on-site revisions are processed through the Engineering and Estimating departments.
